Al Bisnar

Al Bisnar is a London-based abstract painter and printmaker whose work explores the meeting point of geometry, memory, and lived experience. Originally from Leyte in the Philippines, he brings a cross-cultural perspective to his practice, informed by both his roots and his journeys across places and landscapes. His Filipino heritage and London life converge in his art, giving it a rhythm that is at once deeply personal and universally resonant.

With a multicultural background, Bisnar balances precision with emotional depth. His art reflects both the fragility and resilience of the human body while extending into themes of equality, identity, and shared humanity.

Through geometric abstraction, Bisnar distills complex ideas into bold forms and vibrant colour fields. His Cross-Section Series draws inspiration from anatomy, using layered shapes to suggest the inner structures of the body, reminding us that beneath appearances we share the same vulnerabilities and aspirations. Works such as Homecoming carry strong ties to his Filipino heritage, evoking the warmth and nostalgia of returning to his hometown, while others like Dunes of Dubai transform travel and memory into rhythmic, emotional compositions.

Oil on canvas is central to his practice, while printmaking—especially linocut reduction—offers a different kind of precision and rhythm. This interplay of improvisation and control gives his work an immediacy that resonates across cultures.

Now based at Westland Place Studios in London, Bisnar continues to refine his voice as one of the city’s emerging abstract artists, steadily gaining recognition among collectors and curators.
